During this coronavirus lockdown period, it is important to not only take care of your physical appearance, but also to take care of your mental wellbeing and overall wellness. After-all, happiness is not only a physical manifestation, it is also in the mind. So while we are finding clever ways of keeping our physical appearance tip top, let us not neglect our mental wellbeing. Mind and body remember.
Exercise is key for wellness
No matter what you are doing, do not underestimate the benefits of exercise. This is probably the most important coping tool you have in your arsenal if you find yourself in lockdown. The UK Government in their guidance have made provisions for some form of daily exercise. Use as much of this as you can because you are missing on some vital activity during this period.
You might not even realise it, but your daily commute and hustle and bustle at work certainly counts towards a healthier lifestyle even though you are sitting behind a desk. With lockdown however, you are no longer commuting and you do not even need to leave your sofa to do anything, except the occasional visit to the fridge of course.
If the physical benefits are not enough to entice you, how about the mental and physiological benefits. According to one scientific journal, people who are quarantined are likely to develop some form of psychological stress and disorder. They include low mood, anxiety and even PTSD. Getting out the home for your one hour of lockdown can reduce some of this symptoms and break up what is fast becoming a monotonous cycle of sleep, work and eat. It can also help give you a much needed change of environment and boost your overall wellness.
When you do get out however, please remember to social distance and keep at least 2m apart from other people.

Reading to Wellness
If you are not much of a reader, perhaps this is the right time to start. If like me, you usually commute to work, you will notice that all of a sudden you have an extra hour or 2 during the day. Why not try reading a book or two. Now we are not saying turn into a book worm, but reading can also help break up your routine. And, if you are reading before bedtime, it can help get you away from your phone so you can get a better night sleep. Reading can also help expand your imagination and boost your overall wellness and mood.
Keeping in touch
We are all social creatures at the end of the day and any lockdown goes against our most basic nature. Millions of people are finding clever ways of keeping in touch with loved ones and this is something you should try too. Not only could this help rekindle old relationships etc, but the lockdown also gives everyone a unique opportunity in terms of time to be able to reach out to relatives and loved ones. There are even apps out there and groups that help you connect with perfect strangers.
